Email to the president of Southwest Trading Company Yarn

Ms. Raffino --

Today I went to my local boutique yarn store and I bought 9 skeins of SWTC Bamboo, at the retail price of $13.50 -- $121.50 total, before tax. I randomly chose a skein out of the bag to start my project and in the course of balling up the yarn, I found SEVEN cut-and-tie knots in ONE 250 yard skein. One break in a skein is somewhat excusable now and then, but seven? Not even remotely excusable.

I don't have a large pool of disposable income to spend on yarn, and this was a treat for myself. What should have been a day of blissfully knitting a special lace dress with "quality" yarn, has turned into a complete disappointment.

SEVEN breaks in ONE skein. I am too angry and frustrated to check any of the other skeins, and afraid of what I might find. Please tell me how something like this happens. Does your factory have any quality control whatsoever?

Holy shit!

What are/were you going to make with it?

It was intended for VK Summer '07 pattern #9 - Lacy Eyelet Dress, in black.

You're taking them back, I assume. That is horrendous, and the shop should know about it, and they will likely take it up with the distributor.

And second question, what lace dress pattern are you planning on??

I decided to go straight to the manufacturer myself, and I have actually just received a reply to my email offering to replace the yarn. If they are able to match the dyelot I'll be somewhat satisfied, assuming I don't find another bunch of knots in the next ball I try.
